NEUROSCIENCE in the next 20 YEARS

The Technology Warning Division of the Defense Intelligence Agency's (DIA's), in association with the National Research Council and other U.S. science academies have issued a manifesto expressing concern and desire to participate in gains related to cognitive neuroscience and technology partner in the next 20 years, noting the shortage of analysts able to understand the significance of recent advances in neuropsychopharmacology, functional neuroimagenology, computational biology, human-machine systems, physio-psychological processes related to emotions, motivations, psychological differences between the West and East, improvements in human performance, business risk assessments, legal issues, military applications, training provided, and so on. 1) It is of particular interest to exceed Polygraph and Lie Detection, with functional neuroimagen, viewing specific aspects of brain function, or through the technique of stimulation with transcranial direct current, interfering neuronal activity, slowing the ability of certain people, for lying.
2) Drugs that nullify or improve the performance of troops and or modules psychological disorders, to restore to normalcy to patients. Drugs that modulate and control aspects of human psychology. Also aspects of delivery of drugs (nanotechnology helping to cross the blood-brain barrier). It is clear that the brain will be converted in the future on a battlefield (methods to control the mind) that influence national security and wars of the future. 3) Interest on devices attached directly to the brain, operators who control machines with the mind or amplify senses (glasses with video, audio-headphones, processed in computers, immediately fast enlarged pictures), Christopher Green emphasizes. Plus: Direct Brain-machine interfaces, to control hardware and software. Robotic prosthesis replacement, to improve physical performance. Cognitive and sensory prostheses. Robotic assistants to improve cognitive performance. Technology simulations for social and psychological control. Machines that use Internet to train themselves or systems that reason like humans, with increased capabilities. 4) Neuroimagenology to read intentions of anxious people and even dangerous criminals, rather than they act. Cameras advanced surveillance to detect dangerous expressions. 5) Scanners to interpret the mental state of some people.
