NEURODEVEPLOMENTAL DISORDERS and PATERNAL AGE

When Alain Delon was 65 years, a journalist asked him why he had no children with his -then- beautiful girlfriend of 25 years. Delon -graceful French film-artist said: "When my son will be 15, I will be 80. When he looks his unlimited future, I will be near death. Being our worlds so different what could I teach him?. It turns out that the arguments involve not only world visions... the reasons may be also biological.

In the last issue of the journal PLOS, Sukanta Saha, Adrian G. Barnett, Claire Földi et al, argue that advanced paternal age (not maternal) is associated with an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders (autism and schizophrenia), as well as dyslexia and reduced intelligence. Although this is no problem in Latin America, in England, 40% of parents has between 35 and 54 years. The authors argue that at 50 years, the number of male mitotic divisions is 840 times against 22 for women. Copy error, increases with age. The study was conducted in 33,437 births records (1959-1965), of U.S. Collaborative Perinatal Project.

EDAD PATERNA y DESORDENES NEUROLOGICOS
