ICELAND'S VOLCANO

The eruption of the volcano Eyjafjallajokull (Iceland, island above rocky submarines volcanos of North Atlantic Ocean), pouring tons of particles of sulphur dioxide of up to 6 km high for all Europe, forcing the closing of airports and suspension of flights of European airlines before the fear of lack of visibility and destruction of airplane’s engines force us to imagine scenes of more span happened 65 million years ago, when a big meteorite collided against Earth generating enormous powder columns around the planet containing silica, coal, iridium and others, creating a mantle that stopping the entrance of solar light and annuling the photosynthesis, conditioned an intense cold along one year, causing the non alone death of dinosaurs but the extinction of 50% of species of that time. In spite of their smallest quantity and duration the current toxic cloud, has showed their potential of altering the European climate.

VOLCANES DE ISLANDIA

La erupción del volcán Eyjafjallajokull (Islandia, isla encima de volcanes rocosos submarinos del Océano Atlántico Norte), vertiendo toneladas de partículas de dióxido de sulfuro de hasta 6 km de altura por toda Europa, obligando al cierre de aeropuertos y suspensión de vuelos de líneas aéreas europeas ante el temor de perdidad de visibilidad y destrucción de motores de los aviones, nos obligó a imaginar escenas de mayor envergadura ocurridas hace 65 millones de años, cuando un gran meteorito al chocar contra la tierra generó enormes columnas de polvo alrededor del planeta conteniendo sílice, carbon, iridio y otros, creando un manto que al impedír la entrada de la luz solar y anular la fotosíntesis, condicionó un frio intenso a lo largo de un año, ocasionando la muerte no solo de los dinosaurios sino la extinción del 50% de las especies existentes de esa epoca. A pesar de su menor cuantia y duración la nube toxica actual, ha demostrado su potencial de alterar el clima europeo.
