SURPRISES AT MERCURY

WATCH VIDEO 2

WATCH VIDEO 1

Amazing information (photos, chemical data) received on Earth from the spacecraft NASA's Mercury Messenger (Surface, Space Environment, Geochemistry and Ranging), showing km of thick lava, surface sulphide, distorted magnetic field and different chemical composition to other inner rocky planets. Mercury is the smallest planet and near the Sun with 70% of metal, 30% silicates and a density of 5430 kg/m3, slightly smaller than Earth. Its inner core occupies 42% of its total volume (the Earth only, 17%). Let's see: I) Dual Imaging System images (10 m/per pixel), has discovered surface pits in the form of punched holes, surrounded by hundreds of m-km, of bright material suggesting the presence of ice. Of substances identified highlights sulfur emerging to the surface and spreading out in space. The problem is that even today stands abundant sulfur on the surface of Mercury. If there is another substance would be composed of any unstable material with rapid evaporation when exposed to the surface.

II) Volcanism modeled Mercury surface III) The unexpected asymmetry of the magnetic field of Mercury is because the center of the magnetic field is not at the center, but 480 km north being stronger in the northern hemisphere than in the south. IV) Data collected from the X-ray Spectrometer (XRS) indicate that Mercury’s rocks contain less potassium. The theory suggests a rapid evaporation of potassium in very hot environment. The point is that in current Mercury there are ample amounts of potassium. Unlike the surface of the Moon, Mercury is not dominated by feldspar-rich rocks. Scientists wonder why iron takes ¾ of the inner core of Mercury.
